Feeling Gobi Tour

The Gobi Desert is a wide, dry region in northern China and southern Mongolia. It's known for its dunes, mountains and rare animals such as snow leopards and Bactrian camels. In the Gobi, Gurvansaikhan National Park, the Khongor sand dunes are the main attractions for guests. The park also features the deep ice field of Yolinn Am canyon. Also dinosaur fossils area has been found at the red "Flaming Cliffs" in Bayanzag. We will do camel caravan and sand skiing etc....

Day 1

Ulaanbaatar to Baga gazriin chuluu (Small land stones)

Small land stone (Baga gazriin chuluu). Baga Gazriin chuluu (Small land stone) located just in the middle of two soums (Administrative village) Delgertsogt and Adaatsag in Dundgovi province. It takes 245 km from UB and 300 square meters. The altitude of this place is 1768m, and Granite Stones Mountains, there living many wild animals such as red fox, wild goat and sheep, steppe fox, wildcat and marmot which listed endangered-species listing, and also rare kinds of flora. That is why the place strictly protected along the environment laws in 1996. Moreover still researched over 700 fluent ancient burial sites which date related to Bronze Age around this area.

Cultural and historical sites locate in Small land stone area such a 3 meter deep cave and old monastery remains, small pure water which is originated on the rock surface by the cave; it said well that can heal the eye ills. The place is on the road to Gobi and UB.

Overnight we will saty in a ger guest house.

Day 2

Baga gazriin chuluu (Small land stones) - Tsagaan zuvarga (White stupa)

Tsagaan Suvarga (White stupa). The place of White stupa, located Ulziit soum (village)in Dundgovi province looks like Stupa due to it is originated mud moraine layers which was the ocean bottom, erased by the wind force gradually. So all Mongols call the place respectably named that White Stupa (Tsagaan suvarga). The height of this place is 300 meter and the landscape of this covers all the classic Gobi nature beauty, shaped and bended sudden down, lasts 400 meters. There are living Mongolian nomad families, engaging camels and goats so we can attend the daily activities such as milking goats, and caring animals, also watching the how to process dairy products.

This day we will introduce the real gobi attraction and staying in a Tourist camp overnight.

Day 3

Tsagaan zuvarga (White stupa) to Yoliin Am (Yol valley)

Yolin Am (Lammergeier Valley) is a deep and narrow gorge in the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains, strictly protected areas in southern Mongolia. The valley is named by the Lammergeier, which is called Yol in Mongolian. The Lammergeier is an Old World vulture, hence the name is often translated to Valley of the Vultures or Valley of the Eagles. The valley is located within Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park. Yolin Am is found in the Zuun Saikhanii Nuruu (the Eastern Beauty) sub-range of the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains. The area, as part of the Gobi Desert, sees little precipitation. However, Yolin Am is notable for a deep ice field, ice field reaches several meters thick by the end of winter, and is several kilometers long. In past years it remained year round, but the modern ice field tends to disappear by September. We can ride horse back to see and touch the ice field. It is an incredible area seeing Ice in middle of hot Gobi, calcium 30 degree above zero.

On the way, afternoon, we will pass Center of province Dalanzadgad to get refresh for buying anything what we need. 

To see Yol valley we need to walk through the canon over 2.5 km. In the evening we will stay in a ger guest house or if tourists prefer, we can sleep in tent by the beautiful gorge site Dungenee.

Day 4, 5

Yoliin Am (Yol valley) to Khongor sand dunes and mountains

It takes 216 km from Dalanzadgad, one of the 21 provinces in Mongolia. The place is in Sevrei village in Dalanzadgad province. It takes 650 km from UB and 35 km from Sevrei village to the north east. It is included the Gobi Gurvan saikhan natural protected area. The sand dunes and mountain continues from North West to south east 130 km and 35 km wide, in some area 3-5 km wide, and it is the longest lasting sand dunes in Mongolia. The height is 195 m. The highest point is when it windy days the top of the dunes makes noise, sounds like flying plane so the local people calls this “Singing dunes”. By the sand dunes there is flowing the small river having both sides green sides, over 10 km long, making the small lake, named “Ending Lake” in the end of this river. Due to promoted by the project of Jaika from Japan in 1997, the place is addressed that One of the attractive point in Mongolia. Khongor sand dunes natural feature and biological characters are one of the attractions for tourists because the place also became famous “7 wonders in Mongolia”. Khongor sand dunes area is 925 square km and the west side of the dunes is higher. On the west side of Khongor sand dunes, there is mountain, named “Khatan sevrei”, habituated Snow leopard (Unica unica), Tetraogallus altaicus – Snowcock, Ovis ommon – Argali, Wild sheep, Capra sibirica Pallas–Siberian Ibex registered in endangered species list. And there habited Procapra gutturosa Pallas – Mongolian gazelle Zeren, Gazella subgutturosa Guldenstaedt – Goitred gazelle.

In the evening we will stay in a ger guest house, On 6th day we will ride camel and watvh the sunset from the top of Sand dunes.

Day 6

Khongor sand dunes to Baynzag flaming cliffs

Baynzag dinosaur fossil area. Bayanzag is located in the Bulgan village in Umnugobi province. It takes 100 km from the center of province Umnugobi to the west. From ancient until middle of 1920s, people understood that Mongolia is “Central Asian desert”. That is why; Mongolia had not deeply researched by the archeologists, paleontologists and natural scientists. But in 1920s, researcher for American museum, and paleontologist of Central Asian research center, Roy Chapman Andrews’s team first time excavated the area and found quite rare paleontological findings such as dinosaur fossils skeleton and eggs so that it is known through the world by the name of Mongolian Gobi. In the mornings the fossil area looks like flaming cliffs. The longitude and latitude of this place is North 44*09’37,86” N, East 103*41’40,63”. So this place is registered one of the 7 wonders of Mongolia.

Paleontologists’ found such kind of dinosaur such as Оvirарtоr, Рinасоsаurus, Рrоtосеrаtорs, Sаurоrnithоidеs, Vеlосirарtоr.

Moreover the area of Bayanzag has a wide source of flora. In these, exampling the bush trees are H. ammodendron / C. A. Mey / Bge – Sаksаul, and endangered flora of Сistаnсhе dеsеrtiсоlа - Dеsеrt Сistаnсhе. Also endangered birds of Роdосеs hеndеrsоni - Mоngоliаn Grоund- Jаy”, “Otis tarda – Great Bustard”, “  Sylviа nаnа - Dеsеrt Wаrblеr.  We can ride camels and collect piece of dinosaur bones by using special way to recognize if it is bone or stone.

We will stay here in a ger guest house. We can make hiking around this area and introducing the dinosour sites.

Day 7

Baynzag flaming cliffs to Ongi temple ruins

Gobi rocky mountain area, having nice spots to make peaceful condition in the middle of mountain, flowing Ongi River through the hills and mountains, is one of the nice attractive place for breaking in the trip. The museum, established from temple ruins and ger museum are the real example, running the tourism development in countryside.

Over night we will stay in a nice Tourist camp, located by the Ongi river.

Day 8

Ongi temple ruins to Khar-Khorum city, Erdenezuu Monastery

Khar-Khorum city, Erdenezuu monastery, Khar-Khorum historical and archeological museum, nice natural area with big river and valley, are the main attraction why we arrive there. Erdene-Zuu monastery, built in 1585 by using remains of Khar-Khorum city is also the main sightseeing place.

Day 9

Khar-Khorum city, Erdenezuu Monastery to ugii lake

The lake, covering 25 square meter, 7 km long, 5 km wide, is situated in Ugii nuur village in Arkhangai province. The deepest side reaches up to 15m. The lake is fed from the Old (Khugshun) Orkhon river on the west side, flows into Orkhon River to the north west side. From January until May, the lake has ice surface. The lake has over 14 species fishes such as perch, luce, and gathers there 150 kinds aquatic game birds and endangered birds such as cape, barren goose, spoonbill, Dalmatian pelican. The place is quite pleasant for bird watching tourists.

Day 10

Ugii lake to Khustai National Park to Ulaanbaatar

Khustai National Park takes about 100 km from Ulaanbaatar to the west. The place is one of the strictly protected areas, operating for conserving ecosystems, biodiversity of the park and historical stone monuments, build up takhi population in the wildlife. The main attraction why guests arrive there is wild horse, endangered species. Takhi is unique wild horse, revealed by Russian scientist Przewalski, so the species has named with this scientist name of Przewalski. The area has birch forest, 450 species flora and 126 species birds and other fauna such as red deer, gazelle and wild boar. Since 1992 by running the project of Holland and Mongolia for inhabitation the wild horses in Mongolia, today the number of population is over 500s. 

After visited Khustai National Park area, we will heads to Ulaanbaatar
